Kolkata, 16 July 2025: The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Visitor of the IIMs, approved the appointment of Prof. Alok Kumar Rai as new Director of the IIM-Kolkata. He is presently serving as vice-chancellor of the University of Lucknow.
Prof. Alok Kumar Rai served as a Professor of Management at Banaras Hindu University, before joining as Vice Chancellor Lucknow University. IIM-C has not had a regular full-term director for nearly two years. The Union ministry of education, which coordinates between the institute and the Visitor, has communicated Hon’ble President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu’s approval to IIM-C chairperson Shrikrishna Kulkarni, who will issue the appointment letter.
